5 Indian stars who faced rejection before making it big

Can you believe Madhuri Dixit was rejected by Doordarshan?

They went on to become heartthrobs on the big screen but not many know the rejections they faced early on in their careers. And they were rejected for being too tall, unpolished and the list goes on!
We list the five actors who were rejected as actors and went on to carve a niche for themselves. Read on -

Madhuri Dixit

She is considered the evergreen diva with the most beautiful smile in Bollywood today but she was rejected by Doordarshan in 1980. She was supposed to make her debut on a TV show named 'Bombay Meri Hai' alongside actor Benjamin and had also shot a pilot for it. It is said that Doordarshan rejected MD the show as they didn't like the casting, which included Madhuri Dixit.

Amitabh Bachchan

It is hard to believe but Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was rejected in a talent hunt several years ago. He took to Twitter last year to share the picture he had submitted for a Filmfare content to gain entry in films. Big B looks extremely lean in this black and white picture, nearly four decades old.
That wasn't the only time he was rejected. Known for his baritone voice, it will come as a surprise that the actor was actually rejected by All India Radio. He spoke about the incident in 2015 in a video interview.

Smriti Irani

Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani made headlines recently while revealing that the team of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' rejected her as she was 'not fit' for television.
"I have been associated with television for over 20 years now. Television gave me a platform to enter Indian political space and I will be forever grateful for that. Also, Ekta Kapoor spotted me among the many young girls who had come for audition and selected me despite her team having rejected me as not fit for TV," she was quoted in an IANS story.

Kangana Ranaut

She has spoken about her rejections openly and desires to one day pen her struggle in the Hindi film industry. Before she became the queen of Bollywood, she was rejected for her wrong pronunciations, frail figure and poor fashion sense.
Like her television interview revelations, the tell-all book will surely be a hot seller at the bookstores.

Rekha

She first appeared on the big screen as a child actor (named Baby Bhaurekha) in 1966. In three years, she made her debut as the leading lady in the Kannada film Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999 with Rajkumar in 1969.
As the actress dreamt of seeing the world, she desired to become an air hostess. She was however rejected as she was too young to be employed by an airline. And the rest, as they say, is history.
